THE VENTILATOR LAB
OUR MISSION

About The Ventilator Lab

Proficiency in mechanical ventilation is an essential skill for critical care fellows and practicing clinicians involved in the management of critically ill patients. It is also an important area of learning for residents aspiring to careers in pulmonary and critical care medicine. However, opportunities to develop and refine a comprehensive understanding of ventilator mechanics, waveform interpretation, and patient–ventilator interactions remain limited. Traditional educational resources often emphasize theoretical principles without adequately integrating ventilator waveforms into clinical scenarios in which physiological findings must be interpreted alongside patient-specific data.

The Ventilator Lab aims to address these educational gaps through an interactive, case-based learning platform designed to strengthen ventilator literacy. Through clinical scenarios, waveform interpretation exercises, and detailed physiological explanations, learners will be encouraged to apply fundamental principles of respiratory mechanics to real-world clinical problems. The platform seeks to foster active learning, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of mechanical ventilation and its practical application to bedside decision-making.

Beyond its educational mission, The Ventilator Lab aims to contribute to medical education research by evaluating patterns of learner engagement, identifying common knowledge gaps, and exploring opportunities to improve the teaching of mechanical ventilation.
